Chips and Smoke!

Hey!

I have a friend that posted on Facebook that one of her pet peeves is people blogging and making their lives seem perfect when they really aren't. I'm not so sure how I feel about that comment and I hope that people don't think our lives are perfect because they sure aren't! We just figure write about the good stuff because no one likes a whiner! :)

On Friday I was severely startled by a smokey incident. Here's the story. I had been on campus working all morning then went to hang out with my cousin for a little bit, then I rushed home to see Brett in the short time he has on Fridays between classes and work. In the excitement of spending time with my husband I forgot to eat. So after he left I did some homework and became progressively hungrier. So at around 4 o'clock I decided to make myself a snack.

I thought that chips and salsa would be good, but since we didn't have any chips, but we had some left over corn tortillas, I would make my own chips. (I will probably never do this again.) I set the oven to broil at 500 degrees. Cut the corn tortillas and put them in the oven for about a minute, rotated them and set the timer for another 30 seconds and walked away. I guess I didn't hear the timer go off.

A couple minutes later I remembered and opened the oven to see a huge cloud of smoke. I slammed the oven shut, but it was too late our smoke detector started blaring. I grabbed a chair and unplugged the smoke detector and opened the doors and windows. It happened to be a rainy day outside and about 40 something degrees. Perfect- right?! : / I feel very lucky that the fire department didn't show up!

I went to Broulims to tell Brett what had happened and get out of the smoke for a little bit and the first thing he said to me was "you smell like a smoker" followed closely by a "What happened?!".

Anyway, long story, and during this whole process I somehow managed to talk to my mom and my mother in law on the phone (called my mom, Mary called me back about an address) So both of them got a good laugh about it :) Here is a picture of the chips...

Yum?

The smoke smell is a lot lighter today so hopefully it will be gone soon. I'd like to say these things never happen to me, but they do. So now you know the story of how I almost burned the apartment down.

We did get the chance to go tot the temple together on Tuesday which was such a great opportunity. We usually end up going separately because of our mixed up school schedules.

I hope everyone has a great week... I need to go make 50 cookies for one of my classes tomorrow!
